The ANU Juris Doctor (JD) is a specialized program designed for graduates from non-law backgrounds or those holding international law degrees. This curriculum includes both mandatory and optional courses, covering all academic requirements set by Australian Legal Practitioners Admission Boards for professional legal practice, pending further practical training. Students can enroll in dedicated JD courses, select offerings from the LLM program, and incorporate a limited number of LLB electives into their studies. Flexible study options include full-time or part-time enrollment, with intakes available in both Semester 1 and Second semester.
Career Prospects
Juris Doctor graduates can pursue roles where a law degree is either essential or highly advantageous. Professional pathways requiring a JD include becoming a Barrister or Solicitor, Legal Officer in government or private sectors, Corporate Legal Advisor, community legal advocate, academic researcher, Judge's Associate, or legal journalist. Practicing as a Barrister or Solicitor necessitates completing approved postgraduate legal training. Broader career opportunities span diplomatic services, industrial relations, public administration, business leadership, advocacy, media relations, law librarianship, court reporting, environmental policy, tech and communications sectors, as well as law enforcement agencies at state and federal levels.
