Indigenous Australian studies is a multidisciplinary field where you can integrate subjects like anthropology, archaeology, English, gender studies, history, linguistics, music, and visual arts. This program offers a comprehensive perspective on Indigenous Australian communities and traditions, both historically and in contemporary contexts.

At ANU, research in Indigenous Australian studies includes examining Aboriginal languages for educational purposes and analyzing social, religious, and territorial structures, which supports Indigenous governance and land rights matters. You might also explore archaeological and historical topics to aid cultural heritage preservation and create community histories. Additionally, your research could involve studying art and performance to enhance public appreciation of Indigenous creative expression and its societal and economic impacts, while also examining economic conditions to improve development initiatives.
