The Composition Honours Specialisation provides advanced training for professional careers or postgraduate research by cultivating expertise in compositional research methodologies, theoretical frameworks, and practical applications. Students will undertake a substantial research project culminating in a portfolio of original compositions (in written and/or audiovisual formats) accompanied by a scholarly exegesis, contributing novel insights or solutions to complex challenges in the field.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, graduates will demonstrate the ability to:
formulate meaningful research questions in composition;
conduct creative, rigorous, and ethical investigations using appropriate theoretical and methodological approaches;
contextualize their work within relevant academic traditions; and effectively communicate research processes and outcomes through suitable formats.

An AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent completed within the last two years
With a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 70 per cent calculated from the 36 units ie 0.75 EFTSL of courses in the discipline cognate to the honours specialisation excluding 1000-level courses ie introductory undergraduate courses with the highest marks
And the satisfaction of any further requirements specified in the relevant honours specialization.
