This rigorous Honours program enables students to pursue independent, specialized research on a chosen topic under expert supervision. Designed for those with background knowledge in environmental science, environmental studies, geography, human ecology, forest sciences, resource management, or sustainability - as well as students seeking to apply expertise from other disciplines to these interdisciplinary fields - the program typically spans two consecutive full-time semesters. It combines research methodology training, advanced study of key environmental concepts and specialized research areas, plus a significant original research project resulting in a thesis. Building upon undergraduate learning, the Honours program enhances research capabilities while preparing graduates for diverse career paths or doctoral studies.

An AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences degree or equivalent completed within the last two years.
with a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 70 per cent calculated from the 36 units ie 0.75 EFTSL of mathematics courses excluding 1000-level courses ie introductory undergraduate courses with the highest marks.
Completion of at least eight 2000 and 3000-level courses in the subject area mathematics with at least four 3000-level courses or equivalent.
With the written approval of an identified supervisor for the research project.
