Thai serves as Thailand's official language, with approximately 70 million native and second-language speakers across Thai communities globally. Learning Thai provides students with distinctive insights into contemporary Thailand, its culture, and societal structures. At ANU, our curriculum combines practical Thai communication skills with opportunities to explore the country's rich literary, cinematic, and cultural heritage. Students enhance their Thai proficiency while gaining knowledge of relevant historical, political, and socio-cultural contexts. These Thai programs support both individual aspirations and Australia's national interests by equipping graduates for meaningful engagement with Thailand's diverse cultural landscape. Pursuing Thai as a major extends beyond academics, with students having opportunities for immersive study in Thailand through various in-country programs, including semester and year-long exchanges. Eligible students may apply for competitive scholarships.
