The Bachelor of Classical Studies (Honours) program demonstrates ANU's dedication to research-focused learning. Expanding upon the Bachelor of Classical Studies foundation, this honors degree provides advanced preparation for professional careers or postgraduate research by cultivating expertise in research methodologies, theoretical frameworks, and principles within classical studies (encompassing Ancient History, Ancient Greek, or Latin). Students undertake a substantial research project, usually in the form of a 20,000-word thesis, designed to generate novel insights or address complex challenges in the field.
Program Objectives
formulate a substantial research inquiry in Classical studies;
conduct innovative, rigorous, ethical, and independent investigation of this question, employing advanced theoretical approaches and methodologies relevant to Classical studies, while situating the research within its academic tradition; and
effectively present research processes and outcomes through suitable academic formats.
