This major aims to equip students with thorough knowledge about the origins, prevention, and management of conflicts, along with theoretical and practical methods for resolving disputes and fostering peace. Special focus is placed on how these matters relate to Australia, Asia, and the Pacific, while examining both historical and modern conflict scenarios.

Students will explore influential conflicts that have impacted our world, region, and nation, as well as initiatives to mitigate and settle such disputes. The program takes an interdisciplinary approach, incorporating perspectives from anthropology, diplomacy, gender studies, geography, history, international relations, law, peace and conflict studies, political science, security studies, sociology, and strategic studies. Graduates will be prepared for advanced research in international relations, peace and conflict studies, or security studies, as well as careers in NGOs, international organizations, government agencies, and policy institutions.

Analyze and assess core concepts and theoretical models in peace and conflict studies, applying them critically to significant field-related challenges;
Conduct independent research using suitable methodologies and reliable data to examine issues concerning conflict prevention, management, and resolution;

Applicants who complete a recognised Secondary Senior Secondary-Postsecondary Tertiary sequence of study will be assessed on the basis of an equivalent selection rank that is calculated upon application.
