The German Language & Culture Major helps students achieve advanced proficiency in German while fostering a nuanced appreciation of diverse German-speaking cultures. Participants are strongly advised to pursue study abroad opportunities through exchange programs with affiliated universities in Germany and Austria.

Program Outcomes
Articulate perspectives and construct sophisticated arguments in German, employing complex grammatical structures. Graduates typically reach at least CEFR B2 proficiency (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);
Apply German for academic tasks including referenced essays, classroom presentations, and cultural research projects;
Interpret and critically evaluate German literature, films, and various media forms within their cultural contexts;
Exhibit knowledge of modern German-speaking nations' historical development; and
Display cross-cultural sensitivity and understanding.
