Australian Indigenous Studies (AuIS) is an established academic discipline that connects with Indigenous Studies programs worldwide. This AuIS Major enables students to explore the remarkable richness, complexity, and variety of First Nations' knowledge systems and worldviews, while gaining a deeper appreciation of Indigenous Australian perspectives, experiences, and rights. The curriculum introduces foundational Indigenous philosophies that shape the original legal frameworks of this land and connections to Country.
Learning Outcomes
develop a knowledgeable comprehension of First Peoples' varied viewpoints on Australian history, cultures, and social structures;
acquire understanding of First Peoples' diverse knowledge systems and epistemologies;
gain awareness of colonization's effects and its multifaceted consequences for First Peoples and wider Australian society; and
establish contextual knowledge of Australian Indigenous Studies in relation to global Indigenous and First Nations communities.
