The Greek Studies program enables students to explore Greek language, history, culture, and politics across different eras, from antiquity to modern times. This major fosters analytical skills to examine how Greek traditions have developed both in their native land and within global communities, including Australia's diverse Greek population. Melbourne's vibrant Greek community offers rich opportunities for cultural immersion and practical application of classroom learning. Students can combine language courses at various proficiency levels with studies in ancient and modern Greek literature, history, and social structures. Graduates gain valuable skills applicable to careers in education, translation, healthcare, finance, tourism, and other sectors both locally and internationally. The program encourages study abroad experiences in Greece or Cyprus through exchange initiatives or La Trobe's specialized cultural immersion course. (Note: International programs may be subject to travel limitations.) Students can begin at different levels - Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced (post-VCE), or Extended - based on their existing Greek language proficiency.
