The Bachelor of Architectural Studies is a world-class program that explores the connections between architecture, communication, technology, culture, and both natural and constructed environments. Our graduates work across the globe, from acclaimed local firms to international architectural practices with worldwide offices.
This undergraduate program equips you with expertise in design principles and methodologies; structural systems and construction techniques; digital design tools and communication approaches; sustainable design solutions; and the historical and cultural influences that shape our built world.
With a strong emphasis on practical application, you'll engage in architectural design studios where you'll create both real-world and conceptual projects, guided by current industry practices and construction methods, while also conducting research and gaining hands-on experience through industry-focused coursework.
Beyond acquiring practical experience, you'll develop the ability to design architectural spaces of varying scales and complexity, while cultivating:
Research capabilities to incorporate theoretical, behavioral, environmental, and ethical considerations into your architectural work.
Insight into architecture's social and political dimensions.
Advanced communication skills including traditional drafting techniques and digital visualization tools, allowing you to experiment with designs using Virtual/Augmented Reality and platforms like Unreal Engine.
Creative and technical proficiency reflecting contemporary design culture, including Indigenous cultural perspectives.
The program emphasizes skill development through examining the interplay between architecture, digital/analog communication methods, construction technologies, cultural heritage, and environmental contexts. With a focus on current global architectural trends, you'll graduate with an understanding of the field's evolving nature worldwide.
You'll also have access to our renowned Design and Construct program, where you'll team up with students from other design fields to create and build actual projects in Australia and internationally. Past student projects include visitor facilities at Tanna Island (Vanuatu), Indigenous ranger stations in the Northern Territory, and research accommodations at Witchelina Station (South Australia).
