ACAP's Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy offers an in-depth program that prepares students with ethical and effective therapeutic techniques. Expanding on the foundation from your bachelor's studies, this program elevates both your clinical abilities and professional opportunities in counselling. The curriculum includes dynamic core subjects addressing trauma-informed therapy, neuroscience applications, psychological wellbeing, and modern therapeutic methods. Graduate with sophisticated understanding and techniques to create meaningful, long-term impact for those you serve. Like all ACAP programs, this degree emphasizes developing immediately applicable, practical competencies for real-world settings. Through simulated counselling scenarios and exploring diverse client interaction methods (including digital and phone-based sessions), you'll cultivate a versatile skillset to enhance therapeutic outcomes. The program includes 240 hours of supervised practical experience, enabling you to graduate with enhanced professional assurance, prepared to handle challenging cases and assume leadership roles. Completing this online Master's degree positions you to assist at-risk populations in various specialties such as psychological health, emergency support, bereavement, substance dependency, and relationship dynamics. This qualification holds accreditation from both PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). Alumni pursuing continued education and clinical supervision qualify for inclusion in ARCAP (Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), the nation's independent registry of certified practitioners. ACAP has additionally accredited this program through its autonomous accreditation authority.
International students must meet the following criteria:
A Bachelor degree in a cognate area (for example social sciences, psychology, community and welfare work, nursing, allied health, counselling), or
A Bachelor degree with evidence of at least one year of full-time study in social sciences, or equivalent, or
Successfully completed ACAP’s Graduate Certificate of Counselling
Minimum English Language Requirements
To be accepted into the program, international students who have not completed a Year 12 or equivalent secondary school level qualification or higher qualification in the English language consistent with the requirements for admission to an AQF Level 8 degree course in Australia must have a minimum score of 6.5 or higher in each component (listening, reading, writing and speaking) of the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test, or equivalent, upon application.
