The Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesia is a three-year collaborative program offered jointly by Youngstown State University and St. Elizabeth Health Center School for Nurse Anesthetists, Inc. Instruction is provided by YSU's graduate faculty alongside educators from the anesthesia school. Bon Secours-Mercy Health Partners contributes clinical resources and facilities at multiple locations including St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, St. Joseph Warren Hospital, The Surgery Center Howland, and Akron Children's of the Mahoning Valley. Trainees receive hands-on practice with various anesthetic medications and methods under the guidance of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and Staff Anesthesiologists from Bel-Park
Anesthesia Associates, Inc. After finishing the program, graduates qualify to take the National Certification Exam administered by the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). Certified CRNAs must then obtain Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure in Ohio or comply with the regulations of their intended practice state.
