The Chemistry Division, part of the Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences, includes 14 full-time professors, 10 adjunct and part-time instructors, 3 support staff, approximately 100 undergraduate students pursuing BS/BA Chemistry or BS Biochemistry degrees, and a thriving MS program. The division boasts cutting-edge research equipment and provides students with immersive, research-based learning opportunities. Advanced lab resources feature NMR spectrometers, X-ray diffraction systems (for both powder and single crystal analysis), electron microscopes (SEM and TEM), and various analytical tools. As a component of the College of STEM, the division contributes to YSU's PhD program in Materials Science and Engineering.

Our ACS-accredited BS Chemistry program meets the rigorous standards of the American Chemical Society, one of the globe's premier scientific organizations. Graduates from accredited programs receive exceptional preparation for professional chemistry roles, making the BS degree ideal for those targeting industrial chemistry careers or advanced chemistry studies. The BA degree suits students aiming for medical, pharmaceutical, or dental fields, as well as those pursuing chemistry-related business or secondary education paths. The BS Biochemistry degree bridges chemical and biological sciences, offering comprehensive training in molecular life processes. This program particularly equips students for medical school, biochemistry graduate programs, or careers in the biochemical industry.
