The Yale School of Music's violin program takes a personalized approach, with instructors guiding students to develop self-teaching abilities through initial instruction and gradual cultivation of self-evaluation skills. The program fosters a cooperative atmosphere where violinists mutually support each other, rather than competing. Three distinct violin studios operate with about a dozen students each. Studio seminars held weekly cover diverse subjects, addressing technical aspects like vibrato and bow techniques, as well as exploring leadership in string quartets and effective time management for busy practice schedules. In addition to primary instructor lessons, students have opportunities to perform for other faculty members.
