The orchestral conducting program provides a chance for an emerging conductor to work as an assistant alongside Principal Conductor Peter Oundjian and visiting conductors. This role includes readying the Yale Philharmonia through two complete rehearsals for every concert program. The selected student also gets to lead two Yale Philharmonia performances themselves. Under Prof. Oundjian's guidance, the conducting student gains practical experience directing different ensembles during rehearsals and concerts. Their technical skills and musical understanding are further honed through mandatory score-reading and analysis courses, focusing particularly on orchestral works.
