Doctoral candidates focusing on New Testament studies can choose this specialization as part of the Early Mediterranean and West Asian Religions (EMWAR) program. EMWAR is an interdisciplinary initiative that fosters advanced research and teaching capabilities in classical domains including Second Temple Judaism, Hellenistic Judaism, New Testament studies, Ancient Christianity, and Rabbinic Judaism, as well as interdisciplinary specializations like Scriptural Interpretation in Antiquity, Sasanian-era West Asian Religions, and Hellenistic Eastern Christianity and Judaism. This adaptable curriculum facilitates historical, textual, and comparative examinations of religious writings, traditions, material artifacts, and cultural developments across the Mediterranean and West Asian regions, tracing their interconnections from the Hellenistic era (3rd century BCE) through the early Islamic period (10th century CE). The Language Concentration Track (LCT) option provides opportunities for deeper philological and linguistic specialization.
