The Combined PhD Program in Philosophy and Psychology is a joint initiative between Yale's Philosophy and Psychology Departments. Participants take courses in both fields while working on an interdisciplinary dissertation bridging the two disciplines. Upon fulfilling all requirements, graduates receive a PhD in either Philosophy and Psychology or Psychology and Philosophy. Admission to the dual program occurs through either department (the student's primary department), following standard application procedures, with both departments needing to approve the combined enrollment. Candidates may join the program either (1) during their initial application to their primary department or (2) after completing some coursework there. In both scenarios, acceptance into the combined program requires approval from both departments, following each department's established faculty review process.
Applicants must have completed your undergraduate degree (bachelor's or equivalent) or will have completed it prior to your intended matriculation date at Yale.
