Biostatistics focuses on creating and implementing robust statistical and mathematical methods for health science research. Since theoretical advancements in biostatistics stem from medical investigations, methodological progress must be rooted in solid statistical reasoning and deep understanding of the relevant medical fields. Consequently, the Department of Biostatistics promotes high-quality methodological research driven by scientific rigor, including active partnerships with other researchers. Biostatisticians collaborate extensively within the School of Public Health, across other departments in the School of Medicine, and throughout the broader University. Current research spans both general methods applicable to diverse health studies and specialized approaches for analyzing data-generating processes. Students in this department explore various health topics, including chronic conditions like cancer, genetic epidemiology, clinical studies, and infectious disease modeling.
