The Yale School of Music's opera program provides intensive professional preparation through hands-on training in opera performance. Alongside individual vocal instruction and coaching in opera and art song repertoire, participants engage in language studies, stylistic interpretation, theatrical techniques, physical expression, and fundamental stagecraft. Regular workshops and vocal sessions emphasize proper pronunciation, artistic expression, and compelling performance delivery. Distinguished guest artists frequently conduct specialized master classes. Annually, the program produces multiple performances, typically including two complete operatic productions and two evenings of costumed scene presentations. These productions rotate between utilizing full orchestras, smaller ensembles, or piano accompaniment. The selection of works is determined based on the current year's vocal talent.
