The guitar program provides training across multiple disciplines, where students receive private lessons, join weekly studio seminars, collaborate with visiting artists, and showcase both solo and ensemble pieces. The weekly seminar features presentations of freshly mastered solo and chamber works, along with discussions covering interpretation, arrangement, technical skills, teaching methods, master-class instruction, concert planning, stage performance, sight-reading, competitions, studio recording, and professional growth. Every semester, participants form duos or small ensembles and present their chamber works in live performances. The repertoire is selected jointly by students and Prof. Benjamin Verdery. Annually, participants must compose an étude and an arrangement, as well as deliver a lecture. Each term includes a master class led by a guest artist. Prior to graduation, all guitar students are required to perform a 20-minute educational concert for New Haven Public Schools.
