The Yale School of Music's opera program provides intensive professional preparation through hands-on training in opera performance. Alongside individual vocal instruction and coaching in opera and art song repertoire, participants engage in language studies, stylistic interpretation, theatrical techniques, physical expression, and essential stagecraft. Weekly workshops and vocal sessions emphasize pronunciation, artistic expression, and compelling storytelling. Distinguished guest artists frequently conduct specialized master classes. Each season features several performances, culminating in a complete operatic production accompanied by orchestra at New Haven's renowned Shubert Theatre. Past seasons have showcased works like Mozart's The Magic Flute and Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. The selection of repertoire carefully considers developing voices while maximizing casting opportunities and educational value for all participants.
