Yale School of Music's trumpet program offers comprehensive training in solo and ensemble performance across musical eras, from classical to contemporary works. Weekly private instruction with Kevin Cobb and studio classes form the core of the curriculum. The program nurtures artistic innovation while enabling students to leverage Yale's extensive academic resources. Beyond solo performances, trumpet players engage in chamber music - a hallmark of the Yale experience. They also perform with diverse ensembles, including the New Music New Haven series and the Yale Philharmonia orchestra. These performance avenues allow students to interpret varied repertoire under the guidance of renowned visiting conductors.

Qualification Requirements
Request recommendations from two teachers who have taught you in core academic subjects (e.g. English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies) who know you well, and who have seen you at your best. It is preferable, but not required, that recommendations come from teachers who have taught you during your final or next-to-final year of secondary school. Your counselor or other school official should submit a School Report with an official transcript that includes all your secondary school courses. In response to the extraordinary circumstances associated with the pandemic, Yale is temporarily suspending its requirement that first-year and transfer applicants submit results from the ACT or SAT.
