The Film and Media Studies program emphasizes the historical, theoretical, analytical, and creative aspects of cinema and related visual media. Classes explore film and other screen-based formats as important contemporary art forms, while highlighting their role as influential cultural and communication tools with lasting societal impact. This interdisciplinary humanities program allows students flexibility in designing their academic path within guidelines set by the Film and Media Studies Committee. This academic freedom requires thoughtful planning to develop a structured and purposeful curriculum. Given the program's unique requirements and varied course options, prospective majors are advised to meet with the director of undergraduate studies (DUS) during their initial college years.
