The Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) program, previously known as Geology and Geophysics, equips students to apply scientific theories and techniques for analyzing Earth's systems and other planetary bodies. Coursework spans from studying Earth's evolutionary history and life forms to contemporary environmental processes and climate shifts, planetary interiors, tectonic movements, oceanography, atmospheric conditions, surface landscapes, natural resources, and ecosystems. The program focuses on using fundamental concepts from physics, chemistry, and biology to interpret Earth's historical and current states while tackling challenges related to its future. Students develop comprehensive knowledge across natural sciences and choose specialized tracks to concentrate on specific planetary or environmental topics. Additionally, the B.A. track caters to students pursuing Earth and Planetary Sciences as a secondary major alongside disciplines like mathematics, economics, physics, biology, or engineering, preparing them for careers in law, business, policy, or environmental sectors.
