The African American Studies program explores race, culture, and contemporary equality movements through multiple academic lenses, focusing on communities of African descent across Black Atlantic regions like the U.S., Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and Africa, along with their worldwide influence. Within this department, students investigate the historical, cultural, political, economic, and social evolution of these societies. The program cultivates thoughtful scholars capable of contributing meaningful perspectives to academic and public discussions about racial justice and equity. Through this major, students gain expertise in the discipline's foundations, core methodologies, and interdisciplinary nature. They develop skills to evaluate, express, examine, and interpret fundamental concepts about societal roles and group dynamics as reflected in scholarly works, creative arts, economic systems, and entrepreneurial endeavors.
Applicants must have a completion of high school.
Applicants will have IELTS scores of 7.0 or higher and Pearson Test scores of 70 or higher. TOEFL scores of at least the following: 100 on the internet-based TOEFL; 25 on the paper-and-paper TOEFL Paper-delivered Test.
