The Yale School of Music's violin program takes a personalized approach, with instructors guiding students to develop self-teaching skills through initial instruction and gradual cultivation of self-evaluation abilities. The program fosters a cooperative atmosphere where violinists mutually encourage each other's growth. Three distinct violin studios accommodate about a dozen students each. Regular studio seminars cover diverse subjects, addressing both technical aspects like bow technique and vibrato, as well as ensemble leadership skills and effective time management for intensive practice routines. In addition to primary instructor lessons, students have opportunities to perform for other faculty members.

Qualification Requirements
Request recommendations from two teachers who have taught you in core academic subjects (e.g. English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies) who know you well, and who have seen you at your best. It is preferable, but not required, that recommendations come from teachers who have taught you during your final or next-to-final year of secondary school. Your counselor or other school official should submit a School Report with an official transcript that includes all your secondary school courses. In response to the extraordinary circumstances associated with the pandemic, Yale is temporarily suspending its requirement that first-year and transfer applicants submit results from the ACT or SAT.
