The choral conducting program equips students for diverse careers in the choral arts by cultivating essential conducting techniques while nurturing their unique artistic expression. Alumni from our program direct professional, community, religious, symphonic, and youth choirs, along with academic and educational ensembles. Students receive personalized instruction from faculty members and gain practical experience through supervised sessions with both the Repertory and Recital choruses. The curriculum includes mandatory weekly seminars and annual conducting recitals. First-year participants co-direct the Repertory Chorus in joint concerts, whereas final-year students showcase their skills in a culminating recital featuring the Recital Chorus. Both first-year and graduating students have opportunities to conduct combined choral-orchestral works. Additionally, choral conducting majors must complete two terms of vocal study as a secondary instrument. Selected students may assume roles as assistant conductors for faculty-led ensembles or as directors of the University's chapel choirs.

Qualification Requirements
Request recommendations from two teachers who have taught you in core academic subjects (e.g. English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies) who know you well, and who have seen you at your best. It is preferable, but not required, that recommendations come from teachers who have taught you during your final or next-to-final year of secondary school. Your counselor or other school official should submit a School Report with an official transcript that includes all your secondary school courses. If a question on the School Report form is not applicable to your secondary school, leave it blank. In response to the extraordinary circumstances associated with the pandemic, Yale is temporarily suspending its requirement that first-year and transfer applicants submit results from the ACT or SAT. The change will be in effect during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 admissions cycles for applicants who intend to matriculate in fall 2021 or fall 2022. 100 on the internet-based TOEFL. 25 on each of the three sections of the paper-and-pencil TOEFL Paper-delivered Test.
