The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner specialization prepares you to take primary responsibility for managing patients with acute and complex chronic conditions across diverse healthcare environments. These environments encompass emergency rooms, ICUs, hospital acute care units, as well as specialized laboratories, outpatient clinics, or medical offices. You have the option to focus on specific disciplines including intensive care, heart health, respiratory care, neurological disorders, cancer treatment, emergency medicine, among other specialized fields. This program requires completion of 15 credit hours in foundational nursing studies plus 36 credit hours of specialized coursework. Upon graduation, you'll qualify for certification from either the American Nurses Credentialing Association (ANCC) or the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) as an Adult-Gerontological Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Most states require this national certification for advanced practice nursing licensure.
