The Department of Language, Literature, Culture, and Writing equips students with skills applicable to diverse careers across business, nonprofit, and government organizations. Our English and Spanish majors pursue opportunities in numerous fields such as legal professions, publishing, public relations, grant writing, marketing, sales, content creation, and digital communications. There's significant demand for English and K-12 Spanish educators throughout New Jersey and nationwide, with growing needs for bilingual Spanish capabilities, writing proficiency, and analytical thinking in both local enterprises and global trade.
Graduates of this program develop valuable competencies including narrative crafting, persuasive argumentation, analytical evaluation, effective communication, stylistic awareness, investigative research, and professional writing. Through enhancing students' interpretive reading, analytical reasoning, and composition abilities - while offering hands-on experience in various writing professions - this certificate provides tangible advantages in employment searches and career advancement.
The certificate program serves both enrolled undergraduates from all disciplines and non-degree seeking professionals seeking skill enhancement. Completed coursework may be applied toward an English major or Critical and Professional Writing minor for those pursuing further academic study.
