Sociologists study a wide spectrum of human behaviors, including criminal justice systems, family dynamics, organizational structures, class struggles, and worldwide disparities. What sets sociology apart is its emphasis on how people's lives are shaped by various social frameworks that both enable and limit their potential choices. These frameworks span age groups, careers, gender identities, belief systems, sexuality, kinship ties, wellness, nationality, racial backgrounds, cultural heritage, and numerous other factors.
Earning a BA in Sociology/Social Studies results in a social studies endorsement. For Washington state secondary education certification, candidates must finish the teacher preparation program, including the SEC 426 content methods course. This course, administered by the Secondary Education Department, can be completed through: 1) the undergraduate BA program, 2) post-bachelor studies, or 3) the Master's in Education curriculum.
