The family life education specialization equips professionals to deliver preventive and supportive services for navigating life challenges and family changes. Learners gain expertise to implement family life education across diverse environments, assisting individuals and families throughout all life stages. Family life educators enhance household stability and adaptability mainly through instructional methods.
This family life education focus demands at least 30 credit hours of coursework developed with and authorized by the graduate advisor. While optional, students may pursue a thesis. The program includes 12 to 21 core credit hours (21 needed for Family Life Educator certification), 2-3 practicum credits, 5-9 research credits, and 3-6 elective credits. Participants must complete coursework in all 10 family life subject areas and a customized practicum. Those without undergraduate degrees in family studies or similar fields might need supplementary courses to qualify for family life educator certification.
