The Master of Arts in Educational Leadership program offered by Western Michigan University's Department of Educational Leadership, Research and Technology follows a competency-based approach. Through diverse experiential learning opportunities, students gain practical skills to address contemporary issues in educational institutions. The curriculum particularly serves working professionals seeking to enhance their leadership capabilities to navigate the complex demands of modern educational systems amid increasing accountability measures. Participants will acquire advanced competencies to tackle present and emerging challenges while improving their career prospects.
This fully online specialization prepares candidates for principal leadership positions. Upon Michigan Department of Education approval, completers will qualify for the School Administrator Certification from the state of Michigan. Graduates may also pursue administrative certification in other states (subject to individual state requirements). The K-12 program has effectively implemented its Educational Leadership MA and Administrator Certificate through cohort-based, job-embedded models that leverage partnerships with local and intermediate school districts. The department offers flexibility to establish customized cohorts serving specific districts, counties, or geographic areas.
Applicants must have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 in the last two years of their undergraduate work.
