The geospatial applications of unoccupied aircraft systems (UAS) certificate equips post-baccalaureate students with foundational skills to earn FAA certification as small UAS remote pilots. This nine-credit program emphasizes capturing and interpreting aerial imagery to produce precise 2D land cover maps, vegetation health assessments, digital elevation models, and 3D reconstructions.
Certificate graduates will gain the ability to:
Demonstrate comprehensive aviation knowledge required for FAA remote pilot certification.
Design effective flight plans for terrestrial mapping missions.
Collect and utilize ground control points for geospatial referencing and precision evaluation.
Apply photogrammetric techniques to transform overlapping images into 2D orthomosaics and 3D point cloud representations.
