The graduate certificate in climate change policy and management, offered collaboratively by Western Michigan University's Political Science and Geography, Environment, and Tourism departments, delivers specialized training to tackle climate-related challenges through policy and management approaches across government, corporate, and nonprofit sectors. Global communities are just starting to confront the immense difficulties posed by climate change, which encompass shifting to clean energy, boosting energy conservation, coping with severe droughts, extreme heat, and coastal flooding, as well as aiding climate refugees. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, achieving the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C warming limit demands swift, comprehensive transformations across all societal domains.
This certificate program caters to both entry-level professionals and experienced students, providing foundational knowledge about climate science and its impacts along with skills development in high-demand policy and management areas. Students can pursue it independently or combine it with another WMU graduate program, allowing course credits to apply toward both degrees.
