The PhD in Paper and Printing Science equips scholars to conduct cutting-edge research or teach at collegiate institutions. This program focuses on paper manufacturing techniques, coating applications, recycling methods, and printing technology innovations.
As a research-focused degree grounded in core scientific and chemical concepts, it prioritizes mastering sophisticated research methodologies, generating high-level studies, and effectively communicating findings. Each candidate's Dissertation Advisory Committee, especially its chair, provides ongoing guidance throughout the research process. While some coursework is required - potentially including credits from prior master's degree studies - the program primarily supports the student's selected research topic, developed in collaboration with their advisory committee. Crucially, the degree recognizes mastery of paper and printing sciences and original contributions to research, not merely completed coursework. The program's cornerstone is the committee's dedicated mentorship, fostering the expertise needed to conduct pioneering research in the field.
Applicant is strongly encouraged to have completed a master’s degree in a discipline relevant to paper and printing science with a minimum 3.25 grade point average.
