The Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering aims to deepen students' expertise and understanding across the discipline's diverse fields, focusing on pioneering research within a selected specialization.
Professionals in mechanical and aerospace engineering tackle complex challenges. Mechanical engineers create and develop machinery, tools, power systems, and other devices that generate or utilize energy, including control mechanisms, instruments, and thermal, hydraulic, and heat exchange systems. Aerospace engineers conceive, construct, evaluate, and assist in manufacturing both civilian and military aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, and related technologies for atmospheric and space applications.
Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline will be required. Students with a Master of Science in mathematics or in a natural science discipline may also be admitted if they have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. The Bachelor of Science or Master of Science should be from a university recognized and approved by the Graduate Committee of the department.
