Western Michigan University's bachelor's program in multimedia arts technology with a music focus equips students with cutting-edge skills for careers in modern music production, where digital tools play a central role. The curriculum covers essential digital media principles and techniques for crafting audio across diverse applications, including video games, music recordings, live performances, artistic installations, films, advertisements, and software applications. The program additionally teaches fundamental video editing, processing, and creation skills.
Enrolled students in WMU's multimedia arts technology-music track will focus on five key areas: sound engineering, creative media projects, live event audio production, coding, and tech-enhanced musical performance. The degree requirements include 18-20 credit hours of essential music courses, a music appreciation class, music theory instruction, eight performance credits, and 37-38 hours of multimedia arts technology coursework. Students must also complete nine additional credit hours from either supplementary technology courses or relevant offerings from other academic departments.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
