The Mathematics Department, housed in Everett Tower, stands as one of Western Michigan University's most established and sizable academic units. It was included among the original 12 departments featured in the University's inaugural 1904 bulletin. The department offers comprehensive degree programs spanning bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels in mathematics, applied mathematics, and secondary mathematics education, along with various minor options and general education classes. Faculty members have built notable scholarly recognition through substantial research contributions and active grant participation.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
