Western Michigan University's family science and human services program is grounded in understanding ecological systems, lifespan development, and the components of personal, relational, and family health and resilience. Students learn to apply preventive and educational strategies in diverse environments to enhance well-being for individuals and families throughout their lives. Upon completion, graduates qualify for provisional certification as Family Life Educators (CFLE) through the National Council on Family Relations.
As a WMU family science and human services major, you'll undertake a semester-long internship tailored to your specialization. These placements deepen your knowledge of contemporary challenges and methodologies while providing hands-on experience, professional connections, and resume-building opportunities.
Additional networking and career growth possibilities are available through student groups and community organizations, such as the Child Life Student Association.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
