Western Michigan University provides an earth science major for those pursuing conservation careers or specialized roles in parks, government agencies, engineering firms, legal practices, or industrial sectors.
This earth science curriculum isn't designed for students aiming for careers or graduate studies in specialized fields like geochemistry, geophysics, or hydrogeology. Its adaptable structure better serves those looking to enhance another major, like civil engineering, or develop expertise in a different area, such as legal studies.
Choosing WMU's earth science program allows you to collaborate with an advisor to create a customized study plan aligned with your academic goals and career aspirations. Your coursework will include geology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
