Gaining admission to Western Michigan University's music performance program requires successfully completing the school's audition process, which takes place every November, January, and February. As a performance student, you'll receive intensive training in instrumental, keyboard, or vocal disciplines while carving out your unique artistic identity. WMU's program provides exceptional performance opportunities both on campus and at renowned venues worldwide. Our graduates frequently continue their studies at elite institutions or pursue careers as collaborative artists, educators, and music directors. Alumni have found success on Broadway stages, as opera coaches, jazz musicians, composers, arts administrators, therapists, and conductors.
Music performance majors at WMU qualify for both talent-based scholarships from the School of Music and academic awards from the university. The program opens doors to diverse professional pathways, all emphasizing rigorous training and artistic excellence.
WMU's performing ensembles play a vital role in enriching the university's cultural landscape while also serving as artistic ambassadors. Through national and international tours across continents, these ensembles have enhanced WMU's standing as a leader in arts education and performance.
