Western Michigan University holds accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Dance and provides two distinct pathways for undergraduate dance students. The first path culminates in a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, focusing on performance skills, choreographic development, and artistic training - ideal for those pursuing professional dance careers. Alternatively, the second track awards a Bachelor of Arts degree, catering to students interested in broader dance-related careers beyond performance, with opportunities to tailor studies through liberal arts electives aligned with individual aspirations.
WMU's dance curriculum encompasses training in ballet, jazz, modern dance, alongside courses in choreography, dance history, teaching methods, and production. Bachelor of Arts candidates additionally explore complementary disciplines including art, music, and theater. Admission to WMU's dance program requires successful completion of an audition process.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
