The Painting Area introduces students to various artistic mediums and innovative problem-solving techniques. This space equips them with the technical expertise and professional competencies needed to thrive as visual artists, imaginative thinkers, designers, and business-minded creators. Learners are motivated to hone their painting and drawing abilities, examine both traditional and contemporary art forms (from realistic depictions to abstract works, two-dimensional to three-dimensional pieces, and unconventional materials and methods), while cultivating distinctive, individualized artistic voices. Our studios support investigations in drawing, painting, mixed media, and experimental practices, encompassing materials such as acrylics, oils, encaustics, watercolors, gouache, paint sticks, cold wax, graphite, charcoal, pastels, oil pastels, colored pencils, inks, dyes, and water-based pigments.

Academic Preparation. Successful students are prepared students and we want to make sure youre ready for the rigors of college-level work. We recommend:

3-4 years of math (through second year algebra or pre-calculus)
3 years of natural sciences (two or more with a lab component)
