For those passionate about exploring history outside traditional classrooms—in venues like museums, archives, and cultural institutions—Western Michigan University's public history program offers specialized training. The curriculum covers public history, museum studies, archival administration, historic conservation, and regional history research methods. As a WMU public history student, you can become part of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. The program also requires an internship and includes various history courses alongside humanities and social science electives.
