Western Michigan University provides both standard political science majors and minors, along with specialized tracks in American public policy, public law, and international/comparative politics. These programs are ideal for students pursuing careers in government, business, education, or legal fields. As a WMU political science student, you can engage in unique programs and join student groups like Mock Trial, Pre-Law Society, College Republicans, and College Democrats. The university's Institute of Government and Politics also hosts lectures and events that may capture your interest.
Students are strongly encouraged to pursue practical experience through internships in political offices, policymaking institutions, legal settings, or international development organizations. Internship placements exist throughout southwest Michigan, Lansing, Washington D.C., and abroad. The Capital Intern Program even offers transportation support for chosen students working in Lansing during spring semester.
