Western Michigan University provides two Latin major pathways. The College of Arts and Sciences offers a Bachelor of Arts program focused on language, literature, and culture, while the College of Education and Human Development provides a teaching degree with similar academic emphasis.
Both programs emphasize Roman cultural studies, featuring core courses in beginner through advanced Latin, classical literature, and mythology or translated ancient texts. With advisor guidance, students can select complementary electives like Introductory Greek or cinematic portrayals of Roman life. The teaching track mirrors the arts curriculum while adding specialized Latin literature coursework and pedagogical training for secondary education preparation.
A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).
