Western Illinois University provides a distinctive online Bachelor of Arts program tailored for non-traditional students, enabling them to complete their undergraduate education in a way that aligns with their personal circumstances and learning preferences: The General Studies Bachelor of Arts degree. This adaptable and personalized program acknowledges that adult learners often have diverse educational backgrounds, accepting transfer credits from other regionally accredited institutions. Participants can request academic recognition by submitting a prior learning portfolio that demonstrates college-level knowledge acquired outside traditional classrooms, applicable to WIU's curriculum. Additionally, learners may obtain credits through standardized proficiency exams and testing programs.
The General Studies Bachelor of Arts offers three combined bachelor's and master's degree pathways: a Master of Science in Education with a focus on Language, Culture, and Education; a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology; and a Master of Arts in Public Safety Administration. These accelerated programs allow high-achieving students to complete both degrees within five years.
