The public history program prepares historians for careers in government and nonprofit organizations by combining conventional research techniques from seminar courses with hands-on training through client-focused projects. Public historians need specialized research abilities that extend past standard archival work and historical debates. Participants in the program gain expertise in integrating visual artifacts and physical objects into historical storytelling, employing location as a focal point for analysis, and crafting both written and digital presentations that communicate nuanced history to general audiences. Degree Requirements: A minimum of 33 graduate-level history credits must be completed.

Applicants to the M.A. in Public History program must have a bachelor's degree in history or a related field with a GPA of at least 3.0 in history courses.
