Webster's jazz studies program emphasizes small ensemble performance. The Master of Music (MM) in jazz studies offers concentrations in either composition or performance. Those interested in jazz history can opt for the Master of Arts (MA) in music. Faculty mentors guide students through diverse graduate-level jazz projects. MM graduates gain skills for advancing careers as private instructors or professional performers—whether as soloists, ensemble players, or composers. Each student's curriculum is customized through consultation with their primary advisor. The jazz studies MM meets all accreditation standards set by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), of which Webster University is an accredited member. For broader musical studies, students may choose the Master of Arts (MA) with a music major.

A satisfactory audition/interview before an appointed faculty committee. A satisfactory performance on an entrance examination in music history and theory. Remedial studies (without credit) may be prescribed for students who have deficiencies in either or both of these areas.
Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which should be from former music teachers.
